It may seem a bit overwhelming when starting a health journey, but it doesn't have to be difficult. The first step is to realize where you are in your health. Ask yourself how your eating habits are so far. What’s your fitness routine, or do you have one? How active you are throughout the day.

If you know that some improvement is needed, then here are 5 small daily changes that make a big difference and can help get you on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

Daily Activity

The goal is to get at least 10,000 steps in a day. Do you sit at a desk all day? Are you walking enough? Tracking your steps is a good way to start. Try the Galaxy Watch, Fitbit, or app to keep track of your steps.

A simple, but effective way to get your steps is using the restroom on the other end of the hall or another level at work. Taking the steps instead of the elevator. Parking in the rear or middle of the parking lot. Or a simple walk in the park with your friend, hubby, or pet. Anything to get as many steps in as possible. May not seem like much, but I guarantee you, it makes a huge difference.

Benefits of walking 10,000 steps a day help increase weight loss, improve sleep, relieve stress and anxiety, strengthen your heart, stabilize your blood sugar levels, and more. Let this be the start of your new health journey. Simple yet effective.

Hydrate

I can’t say this enough, drink more water. Easy for me to say, I love water, but from my understanding, there are a lot of people who hate the taste of water.

May I suggest different alternatives? Add fruit to your water to give it some flavor. Some combinations to try are cucumber and mint, lemon and lime, strawberries and mint, raspberry and orange, the flavors are endless. Try what tastes good to you.

Try to keep track of your intake. The app store has many options to choose from or use a planner or journal.

An easy way I like is to fill 5 glasses of water in the morning or maybe a gallon of water works best for you.

Staying hydrated helps improve skin after weight loss, prevents pimples, flushes toxins out of your body, reduces wrinkles, and improves elasticity.

Food

Becoming aware of the food and snacks you eat throughout the day is helpful. An example would be waking up, eating donuts, and drinking coffee loaded with sugar. For lunch, you have a burger and fries. Snack on chips or chocolate. Dinner is a huge pasta meal with several pieces of garlic bread on the side. I’m just giving an example. I am in no way saying everyone eats like this, but you would be surprised.

Try to do your research or talk with a nutritionist about better meals to eat or developing a meal plan. If that is too much, try to eat healthy in the morning and for dinner. Or eating a healthy lunch. Let me tell you something, slow progress is better than no progress.

Try switching to a green protein smoothie in the morning. Get the recipe here. Add more vegetables to your lifestyle, with every meal. No one is perfect. I damn sure know I’m not. I have my special occasions when I totally pig out. Shit happens. Just being real with you. But the biggest challenge is starting and getting back on track when you’ve fallen off because you will.

Workout/Gym

Don’t wait for New years to sign up for the gym. Do it now. I am aware that some people don't want to commit to the gym, which is understandable. So here is another option for you, YouTube fitness Videos. It’s free girl! I started my fitness journey by working out on youtube videos. YouTube has excellent videos to get you a good sweat. No matter how much time you have. Whether it be a 10-minute video, 5-minute video, 30-minutes, or 1 hour. Type in the search bar workout videos and see how many pop up. You can choose between beginners, intermediate, and advanced. The only thing you have to do is commit and stop making excuses.

Set your workout routine and get started.

Rest/Rejuvenate

Getting your beauty sleep reduces stress, improves mood, helps focus at work or school, and so much more. Having a hard time sleeping, try relaxing teas such as chamomile or lavender tea.

Take a relaxing bath before bed. I have a video of how to make your own herbal bath salts. Click here
